Curtis family, Dublin city..help please.
« on: Thursday 19 April 12 10:54 BST (UK) »
Hi all, I have hit a bit of a brick wall with my research into the Curtis family of Dublin city. They are the same Curtis family that had a brass foundry in various places throughout the city during 1800's and 1900's. Edward Curtis is my direct line but I cannot find where he was baptised or burried!! He was church of Ireland and he married a catholic so they were not burried in the same grave. I dont have exact dates but he was born circa 1853. As far as I know, he worked on the building of the titanic for a few months but other than that, he's a mystery!!
Donnelly,Dublin. Curtis,Dublin. Doyle,Wicklow. Purcell, Offaly. Dwyer,Tipperary. Nolan,Wicklow. McGowan, portlaoise. Buggle, Wicklow/Dublin. Little,Dublin. Carroll, Wicklow. Mulligan,Wicklow.

Do you have a marriage cert for Edward ?

This should give you his father's name and occupation which should help your search.

No marriage cert, I've no idea where they were married, I'm guessing a catholic church as all children were catholic! I still have to check registrars office, thats for next week :) I was reading the posts about their brass foundry, they were great!! Glad to see someone else remembered them!!

Do you know who Edward married ?

there's a possible marriage of an Edward Richard Curtis and Sophia Loton in St. Mark's Church of Ireland, Dublin in 1872 - his occupation looks to be related - Brass Finisher

Had a look on that link you posted, can't find him! He married Catherine/Kathleen ?? She's burried in Glasnevin with her son and grandsons. He does list his place of birth as Dublin city on census but maybe the church he was baptised in is long gone!? Was in Dublin yesterday but couldn't get into registrars to get birth cert for their children. Is there records on line for church of Ireland graveyards? Sorry, I haven't much info!!

I think Catherine's maiden name may be Little..

year of birth/age is a little out, but there's a baptism for Elizabeth that might fit this family in St. Mary's RC in 1891 to parents Edward Curtis & Catherine Little, with an address at Bolton Street.
