Evangeline HUGH 1878
« on: Wednesday 18 April 12 11:31 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out what happened to my grandmothers aunt. Evangeline Hugh was born in 1878 in Grampound, Cornwall daughter of Thomas Hugh and Elizabeth Ann Bennett. She is on the 1901 census aged 22 then nothing more, i cant find a marriage, death or any sort of record after that. Could anyone offer any suggestions please?

I finally found them on the USA 1910 census transcribed as Kenyce! Think the Kemp should have an e on the end. Good job she had an unusual first name :)
Oh and his initial is T not J!
Resident at Ironwood Ward 4 Gogebic? Michigan
Thomas Kempe 33, born England, emigrated 1900, both parents English. Employed as a brakeman on the railroad
Evangeline wife 30 born England both parents English emigrated 1903
Rosedew/Roselew? 1 year 10 months born 1909
Arthur Kempe 23, brother, emigrated 1906, miner in iron mine.

So struck lucky with Thomas's brother Arthur as it will make him easier to identify in the census.

Found this family in 1891 but no Thomas with them. There is an e on the end of their name, Lokk at Arthur's birth place.

1920 Us census is the same details as 1910 still living Gogebic and dau is Rosdew. Thomas a staionary engineman in iron mine.

1930 census
Thomas Kempe 53
Evangeline 50
Mamie R,  dau 21 , teacher at public school, born Michigan 1909.
Has been transcribed as Mamie but could read as Marian? So daughter changed around her names?

Only the one child for Thomas and Evangeline.

Hi there,

Just found your post via a Google search.  (I am a member of this forum but have not logged on in a while).  I am directly related to Evangeline Hugh and have quite a bit of info, many family pics, details regard her and her extended family.  Evangeline was also my grandmother's (Annie Vivian Chesterfield) aunt.  My g grandmother was Mary Maria (Pollie) Hugh Vivian and one of Evangeline's older sisters.  Pollie and her husband William lived in Polgooth, Cornwall.  Please let me know if you are interested in trading information.

Kind regards,
