Manorial Documents Register doesn't yet have Dorset on line, see

I did a search on A2A http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/A2A/default.aspx and on brief inspection it looks as if the Dorset History Centre hold some relevant documents. Reading between the lines there was more than one manor in Tarrant Gunville: Gunville Estbury is mentioned.

Many thanks to both you and to Nanny Jan.  Dorset records office referred me to the the same manorial records website: and as you suggest (and is so often the case!) the answer looks likley to be complex!

I think the answer to who owned Tarrant Gunville in this time frame was, Catherine of Aragon (Princess of Wales) and later, Queen of England.  She was of course  first married to to Henry VIIIs brother Arthur, son of King Henry VII. He died within about a year of their marriage. Young Henry was in love with her and they married after she was able to obtain and annulment from her marriage to Arthur.  Tarrant Gunville was probably part of her dowry when she married Arthur Tudor who would have been king - had he lived. She likely retained ownership throughout her reign until Ann Boleyn unseated her as queen.

Catherine of Aragon was a most pious princess and queen.  Tarrant Gunville had a very active nunnery located there.  I have other information about it being controlled by one of my collateral families at some point.  I cannot remember for certain, but I think it was the Carent family. BUT DON'T QUOTE ME on that until I can give you the appropriate citations.  I know my ancestor John Newburgh left money in his will to his kinswoman who was a nun there, and helped the abbess with expenses.
