The Liverpool RC records on Ancestry were already in the Liverpool Record Office for people to view:-

Although the current Pope spoke out against the LDS, because they rebaptize people they have listed as members of their church, the latest I have heard is that individual bishops in England and Wales have been told to make up their own minds re their registers. In which case the situation may differ from place to place. I used to look at the Catholic registers of Dunkenhalgh, Lancs on the IGI, but haven't checked it lately, so am not sure if they are still on the new familysearch. claytonbradley

There is a Catholic Diocesan Library at St Walburge's in Preston and don't forget the Returns of Papists, a sort of census for Catholics, particularly the 1767 edition. It is useful as a replacement for early baptisms.

What names are you looking for?

From A PM message -
"the couple I am looking for are
JULIA HURLEY and JOHN MARTIN
I would say marriage around 1851 - 1858  and I think Manchester area,
Nothing at GRO but I am sure they would have married"

Do you have them on the 1861 census? Are they the couple lodging with the Taylor family in the St. Peter's district of Manchester? RG 9; Piece: 2928; Folio: 73; Page: 36

This couple are 26 and 22 respectively, and both give their POB as Galway, Ireland. IF this is them then perhaps they married in Ireland and that's why they don't appear in the GRO index or on any of the Manchester/Lancs sites.
Rigg/Scholfield - Oldham/Rochdale
Hibbert/Moore - Hayfield/Saddleworth
Garstang/Kirby - Littleborough/Todmorden
Sutcliffe/Hill - Todmorden/Walsden
Young/Stevenson/Newbutt - Ticknall/Kegworth/Nutall/Hucknall/Bulwell
Woolley/Potter, Gaze/Parkins - Kegworth/Normanton-on-Soar/Wheathampstead/Harpenden
Smith/Green - Offley/Flamstead

Still on British Catholic Records, does anyone know where I would find Catholic records from Bethnal Green area around 1850/60?

Do you know which churches in Preston you need. I belong to the Lancashire Family History and Heraldry Society and we have some of the Catholic Records for Preston. If you can let me have more details maybe I can help you.
