You had a recent enquiry about the same family.  It is always easiest for people researching for you to continue with enquiries on the same thread - that way people don't expend energy and time looking and posting information you already possess.

You should link your previous thread to this one.

Have you checked out the pay site of the Toronto Star - Pages of the Past for any BMDs that they contain as was suggested in the previous thread?
Have you contacted the Toronto library to ask for lookups in the Toronto directories?  If the girls were out working they should be listed in the directories and if the boys did not remain in Toronto the dates that they no longer appear in the directories at least adds to the timeframe.

When you dont get a reply for over a year then perhaps it is time to forget that enquiry and hope that a new one will rekindle some thoughts, I have been in touch with the Toronto Star paid my money and found only one death of a child born to the Booth family. I went to Toronto last year looked through a lot of detail and found nothing I need a family member to pick up the thread hopefully.

You can revive an old enquiry and add to it and get the same result as starting a new thread - plus it keeps all information found about a family on one link and people don't have to flip back and forth to see what has been found.

Did you contact the library to have lookups in their directories to see if family members stayed in Toronto?

I spent 6 days in York Ontario where I found 18 Devereux's, some where not interested some showed interest but were not linked. I have written to 85 Devereux's in the last year currently living in Ontario. and recieved 3 replies, each and every letter included my email address, none of the 3 are linked, I have had contact with one member via her family friend, but she is now in her nineties and very frail, and has extreme memory loss. I cant push that angle. I was hoping that a new link would work, and that perhaps another family member a couple of generations might see it, as there are new people joining all the time, and many do not trawl through the history of your site. However as you appear to be unhappy with my re-listing, then you can remove it, and as for continuity, there is none when after two years there is no reply of comment.

Did you ever contact the Toronto library - Ask a Librarian feature - as they will look up names in their city directories.  Perhaps your family members did not all stay in the Toronto area - this is a free service and very informative.  Helpful in determining if Toronto is a place to search for this family or not.

The reference to the possible marriage of Helen to a Blunt must come from a border crossing document in 1936.  It gave her birth as 01 Dec 1897 Liverpool which is consistent with FreeBMDs lisitng of a birth registration for Helen Mar 1898 W. Derby 8b 549.  This document seems to indicate that she was going to reside permanently in the U.S.   The U.S. 1940 census is currently being indexed by FamilySearch.

Albert returned to England and travelled back to Canada on the Regina arriving 03 July 1926.  He was still single going back to 512 Sendon Ave. Toronto with his mother as his contact although it is spelt Soudan beside her name.  Don't know if this tallies with the address on Form 30As and on mother's death registration.  If everything was on the same thread it would be easier to check.  He was a wood machinist for F. Leyland and Co.  It indicated that he had no family left in Britain.

If family/descendants are googling and come across information leading them to Rootschat they will get both of your enquiries.  If a new member joins and searches the site then both of your threads would also appear (as long as they are using the same spelling as you).

I was trying to point out that reviving an old thread is just as productive as starting a new one, most often more productive as all information is contained in one posting.  Makes it easier for people to search and help you.  Certainly most people helping on this forum are not going to be looking at enquiries from 2 years back - that's where you simply bring your enquiry to the forefront by adding to it and asking if anyone can find anything current.  Hope that makes sense to you.

I still think you should contact the Toronto Library and find out as much information as possible from their directories.

The interesting thing about Albert is the return to Canada on 3 Jul 1926 on the Regina, is that that ship left Liverpool 23 Jun 1926 with Albert recorded as a Cattleman with last address as the Hughes Hotel Liverpool, 10 days later he is a wood machinist. Thats what makes the search so interesting. I visited the North York Library when in Toronto spent a day with a helper but was unable to get firm information to work on. The trouble is visiting 90 years after the event sknowing that none of the people you are looking for are still alive makes thing quite a task to find information. With Canadian records quite resptrictive as well. Which is why I was hopeing that a family member might be working on a family tree but it seems that I am not that lucky.

Last direct question

When in Toronto did you look up information in the city directories on the Devereux family as that not only gave addresses but occupations and employers?

I was there in 2010. As I had no addresses to go on and I was not aware of the occupations in Canada, of those who emigrated 1922 - 1924, I could not tie down those who may have been correct, whilst I found some of the correct names, once you see a name twice in two different place in the same year you are not sure where to go next. The problem is that most of the records did not show ages of those named. Also as three (one married) were female I needed to find the marriages, which I could not. The three males on the 1911 census did not have trades and may have moved or married outside of the Toronto area, so I struggled.
