boer war records

Thank you to everybody who helped me find Norman Paulins ww1 records. I have a little bit of information that says he may have gone to the Boer war. As he was born in 1880 could he have been old enough to do that. How can I find the boer war records please.

As to where physical records are, maybe someone else can help you out there. I know in Qld that the State Archives holds some Boer War records.

A short snip from the opening remarks at that link

"The Boer War was fought between 1899 and 1902 and spans the pre- and post-Federation period. Therefore, records may be held by state government archives or by the National Archives.

As a general guide, colonial period records are held in state government archives and post-Federation records are held by the National Archives, although there may be exceptions to this"

Yes, he was brave, 5th MVR to South Africa then WW1 plus an MM.  He was also in the CMF before WW1 for 13 years holding the rank of Warrant Officer.

You can see the London Gazette Notice for his MM on page 8357 Supplement to the London Gazette 3rd July 1919.

Yes, Aust Military website is a lot easier for finding & reading peoples service information as it is typed out.   Records are a duplicate of what is on the National Archives & Australian War Memorial websites. 

Keep in mind where possible you should always search the original records to make sure no errors in transcribing.  Plus when compiling your family history original records (especially when free!!) always add a lot more depth to family history.
