1952 will
« on: Friday 13 April 12 10:50 BST (UK) »
I am hoping that someone will be able to answer my question , is it possible to obtain a copy of a will from a relative that died in 1952 in Cheshire, if so, how would one go about it ?,

Thanks in advance, Dovely

Hi Doveley

Before you send off your £6 do you know if a probated will actually exists?

If not, post the name and date of death here and next time I go to Holborn I can check for you.

Thank you so much for the link Nanny Jan will look into it.

Dawnsh, I do not know for sure that there is a will but knowing what I do about the family I find it highly unlikely that he didn't have one,  Thank you so much for the offer of help,  his name was : Edgar Roger Lycett 25th September 1952, death certificate dated 31 January 1953 at Hazel Grove, County of Cheshire.

hello d,

usually a search on ancestry.com throws up other related search topics such as bmd, census, military etc.

in this case the missing link was probate which might indicate that there is no will and given that your chap died age 54 (if i found the correct person) then he may not have considered having to make a will.

a search of the computerised index or probate calendar should not be ruled out but i fear that it will draw a blank.

Hi dovely

The online probate calendars currently cover 1861-1941 so not applicable for your enquiry. However.....

From the probate calendar 1953

Lycett Edgar Roger of 2 Homestead Dale Road Marple Cheshire
died 25 September 1952 Probate Manchester 27 February to
Edith Evelyn Thomas Spinster Effects £1332 10s 5d

You can apply to HMCTS at Leeds (see link nanny jan posted) for a copy which will cost £6.

Thank you all  so much for taking the time to help,

Dawn you have saved me the £6 as I was just about to post request, you have answered my main question about his will, he deserted his family for the woman you mention and I was curious to discover if he made amends by remembering his family, obviously not !!. Thank you once again for all your help.

Hi dovely

The probate calendar only states who the executor of the will was, you would need to see the actual will to see who the benificiaries were.
