Decendants of Edwin Charles Purdie

Hi everyone,

I need to contact the decendants of a Edwin Charles Purdie, born 1841 in Islington , Middlesex Engalnd. He  married an Ann Baker.

One of his sons was Frank Sidney Purdie, born 1881, also in Islington.

I wish to pass on a family heirloom, [nothing of value, 'I don't think'] when I pass away, should it be verified that you are part of the family. I already know of a family member who lives here in Australia, but would prefer to give everyone an equal chance to secure a precious memory of my stepfather.

Was Edwin a Silversmith & Frank a Goldsmith. Are we looking for the right family?

I'm sorry, but I don't know the occupations of either Edwin or Frank.

However, Frank's  two sons recieved University degrees, Frank must have had some money to put them through a higher education. Money was short those days I would think.

Yes I had the right family.

Edwin & Ann had a total of 13 children I have only found 8
 It seems that is all that survived.

Ernest William c.1865 Clerkenwell
Albert H c.1870 Shoreditch
Percy Wilfred c.1874
Walter Clement c.1876 Shoreditch
Cecil Bernard c.1880 Islington
Frank Sidney c.1881 Islington
Stanley Ralph c.1883 Southgate
Edith Frances c.1885 Shoreditch
Ethel seems to have been the one with money-
Ethel Ayres Purdie died 26/3/1923 at Covent Garden Underground Railway Station she left £4518.8.5d.

Frank died 29/1/1936 Battersea General Hospital, it looks like he remarried as he left £85.1.4d to Muriel Edith Purdie widow.

Looks like you could ask for a newspaper look up on Ethel's death?

I can only find two boys for Frank- Harold Philip Sydney Ayres Purdie - looks like he went to Australia
Desmond Tremeer Purdie died 1975 can not find any children although he did marry?
Frank married Ethel Matilda Ayres 16/6/1897 St.George Bloomsbury.

Edwin Charles Purdie died 6/3/1920 he left £279 to his daughter Edith Frances Purdie spinster.

Harold Phillip Sydney Ayres Purdie was my father, [by adoption], he supposedly had three wives.

1. Winifred Elizabeth Gough 1902-1927 Would like to know if there were children.

2. Ivy Reeves - Married 1929 Once again - Any children. Did she die???

3. Hilda Beatrice Gardner b; circa 1910 1915 in Kent England, died 1985 Cairns North Queensland Australia.

Harold's Death Certificate states that he and Hilda married in a place called Bellam England. Never heard of the place. They arrived in Sydney Australia  aboard the "Aorangi", in 1938.I've always wondered why he never went to war.

Desmond, his brother married a Margaret Winifred Johnson. Do not know if there were any children.

Harold was an Electrical Engineer, Desmond a Chemist.

***Please excuse mistake, Hilda's Surname is Gardiner not Gardner.*** They supposedly married 1937.

For those that are following this post, Ethel Matilda Ayres, [Frank Purdie's wife], parents were,

Henry William Ayres & Margaret Eleanor Tremmer.

Have changed children to 8 known, I forgot to add Frank!
