In a place where there are more than one Presbyterian churches it's common for them to be known as 1st ___, 2nd ___, etc. in the order they were formed. It's also common for them to have other names by which they would have been known.

An example which might not make it any clearer-
1st Portglenone (first record 1726)
2nd Portglenone (1821), known as Townhill- Sucession conggregation, disolved 1910.
3rd Portglenone- was the second one formed and was known as the 2nd until 2 Synods united in 1840- after 1840 was 3rd.

This should be more straightforward-
1st Ahoghill (1658)
2nd Ahoghill (1726)- known as Trinity
3rd Ahoghill (c1770)- known as Brookside
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi All, came across this discussion recently whilst researching a possible family connection to the Courtney Family from Portglenone.  I’m wondering if during your research XBWVTyou came across a Charlotte Courtney born circa 1811. My connection would be that she married a Archibald Boardman circa 1832.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi LichfieldBM
I'm sorry I havent come across a Charlotte Courtney, I havent managed to get that far back as I can't even find anything on my g.g.g. grandparents at all.
I think they hail from Portglenone so am trying to find as much information on the surname as possible hoping to come up with a breakthrough.
Good luck with your reseach, I shall try to remember you should I come with any Charlottes that might help you.
Kind regards
Cranstone
