There's a couple of ways,IGI pilot is quicker but then you need to get the extra info from the images which you can get from Ancestry by doing it the way you have.Sometimes Ancestry hasn't got all the names so you then need to search by date instead of name. Then you can move on to the NBI & see if there are any deaths listed based on those dates.
It doesn't take long.

If Jim isn't able to go to St Alpheges Church I would be able to take photographs for you, it is only a 10 minute walk from me. It is a lovely little church (I used to ring the bells when I was little). I believe the headstones that were taken out were moved to another Solihullian Cemetery but I may have got this wrong. There have been people buried in the St Alphege grounds in the years 2000-2010 so I don't know why they would take out headstones. It is a small plot of land though so this could unfortunately be the reason.

Good luck with your searches and let me know if you need any help!

thank you for that offer ellie - i'll certainly let you know. Interesting about removing the headstones - hopefully the church warden would know where they were removed to. I'll wait for his reply to Jim regarding plot numbers before I start bugging him about the same people again :) I hope they have been moved somewhere because it just seems so sad to lose all that heritage.

We have a local, very old (for Aus!) cemetery nearby where a number of my family are buried. Apparently, some years ago, when the cemetery (St Stephens in Camperdown, NSW) was still very large, it became overgrown & a danger spot for the locals so the cemetery area was reduced significantly and now just surrounds the church itself. The surviving headstones outside the new boundary were removed & placed around the inside of the walls, but unfortunately many many of them were damaged either in the moving or by being incorrectly attached to the new stone walls.

thanks again Jim - we can only wait & hope. on a slightly different note, I've just noticed your spelling of St Elphege with the E rather than an A... is there a reason for this?

Initial investigation has not turned up any record of these graves. However, I have passed your information to our Verger who will have a further look while I’m away (in Australia funnily enough) for the next 4 weeks.
