thank you for that offer ellie - i'll certainly let you know. Interesting about removing the headstones - hopefully the church warden would know where they were removed to. I'll wait for his reply to Jim regarding plot numbers before I start bugging him about the same people again

I hope they have been moved somewhere because it just seems so sad to lose all that heritage.
We have a local, very old (for Aus!) cemetery nearby where a number of my family are buried. Apparently, some years ago, when the cemetery (St Stephens in Camperdown, NSW) was still very large, it became overgrown & a danger spot for the locals so the cemetery area was reduced significantly and now just surrounds the church itself. The surviving headstones outside the new boundary were removed & placed around the inside of the walls, but unfortunately many many of them were damaged either in the moving or by being incorrectly attached to the new stone walls.
