Helen Miller - David Miller
« on: Thursday 12 April 12 03:14 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am after info on the Helen Miller - David Miller family who may have emigrated to NZ in the 1860's.
Helen Miller was born 1833 in Gibraltar, to Gavin and Janet Miller (nee Dick).
Helen married David Miller in Charlotte Town, 16 May 1862.
There is evidence that the Millers may have lived in Hokitika 1866 to 1870.

Cheers
Ian

Hi Ian

Welcome.    :)

You say "may have" emigrated ?

If you go to the Resources section of this board, you'll find the links to Shipping / Passenger lists for immigrants which you can check.

"... evidence that the MILLERs may have lived in Hokitika 1866 - 1870."

*   Can you supply more details please ?

Can see advertising in a local Westland newspaper (1868-70) that a "David MILLER and and Andrew CUMMING purchased some rural land and set up in a farming partnership."  (Seems this partnership was dissolved in 1870).

*   Can you give further details for David MILLER ?   Approx. year of birth  ... his occupation.

  ~  Lu

There is also an indication of a David jnr in Davids death notice.
David Miller sen died 3 Dec 1805 at his sons (Artimus G Miller) residence, Clyde St Island Bay.

Hi Lu,
Andrew Cumming married Jane Miller, Helen's sister, 18 Oct 1867, Hokitika.
These are my  gt grandparents.
Passenger lists show that Helen may have gone to Melb from Hokitika, on the Gothenburg, and returned with Jane on the Alhambra, Jan 1867. Jane was 4 months pregnant and her first husband had died at the end of Oct.
I am trying to obtain proof that the David Miller, who was a partner to Andrew Cumming, was Helen's husband and if so what has happened to that side of the family.
David Miller was also a witness to Andrew and Jane's marriage.
Hopefully there are descendants of Helen and David who will have all the answers.
The only thing I know about David Miller is that he is down as Capt David Miller in the marriage announcement in the Glasgow Herald. He would have been born c1830.
Cheers         Ian
