Bangladore - if he had "long deserted the family" by 1851 are you able to state whether any of the post-1841 census children are his? If he was the informant on any of their births it would help pinning down when he was last around the family.
Re the marriage - was he "of this parish" and a tailor then? I know that would only mean he was technically resident there at the time, but if he was from somewhere else it might be a clue.
As he was given as a tailor, there may have been an entry in trade directories - some on the Historical Directories website, others at archives etc. If he was in business he could have been mentioned in the London Gazette (changes in partnerships, bankruptcies etc), also online & free. If you have access to Ancestry have you tried the probate calendars - they're not complete, but you could be lucky.
