Closs Family
« on: Wednesday 18 May 05 01:31 BST (UK) »
Seeking any information that can be found on a Jane Closs born 1850-1852 in Carnavon Wales.  Parents were Thomas Closs and Ellen Williams.  I believe Thomas died in 1855.  Also seeking information on Elinor Closs 1861 Census for
Carnavon Wales.  Thank you in advance for your help.

Dear D ap D,

Thank you for your help. I just found out the census info I am seeking is for the Ellinor that lived in Llanrug Carnarvon.  It seems that my g. grandmother's parents  (Thomas Closs and Ellen Williams)  died in the 1850's and Jane along with her siblings were being raised by and  Aunt.  It is very exciting to find out that I am part Welsh.  I did research on my g. grandfather (Jane's husband) who was Danish and I was able to trace the family in Denmark back to the 1700's.  This was done through Church records.  Is there any registration in Wales on people leaving the country.  I do not know when Jane came to the US - but I know she married my g. grandfather in NY in 1877.  Again, thank you so very much for your help.

Hi again Rainbow,

as far as I am aware there are no separate records for Welsh emigration. There were a few ports in north Wales where people did leave for the US, Caernarfon and Llandudno being a couple of them. I dare say Bangor and Holyhead would also have had a fair amount of traffic. Perhaps you could try one of the Ellis Island sites?

Afraid I've not researched any emigrees, so can't pass on any first hand experience.
