John Cross Tilbrook c1777
« on: Saturday 07 April 12 10:27 BST (UK) »
Please can anyone help trace John Cross c 1777. From a Peterborough Mission Obituary of 1858 and census records John Cross was born in Tilbrook around 1777 but I cannot, for certain, connect his parents or siblings.  The Cross family once it was established in Upwood Huntingdonshire was very large and there were a lot of John's, William and Thomas' as you may expect. I hope that someone may also have this person in their tree and then my search over the past 10 years would be concluded. Any hints welcomed.

There's only only one John Cross baptism in Tilbrook, on 31 Oct 1773, the son of John and Lettice/Letitia, who were the only Cross couple who baptised children in Tilbrook.

A John Cross was buried in Tilbrook on 9 Nov 1773, and as John and Letitia baptised children until 1789 I assume this must have been the infant John. But why would John and Letitia not have baptised a John born 1777? Letitia was buried in Tilbrook on 2 May 1803

Have you checked the parish register to see if there any gaps or possible misenumerations?

David

Thank you very much for the information. Where would I find the parish record? Also do you think that my John was born after 1773 and not baptised but I do not understand either why he wasn't if other children were.  He was a staunch Primitive Methodist for a lot of his life maybe he was with relatives.  What would you surmise in order to progress the research? Angela.

I have just noticed that you have an interest in family name Rook. We have some in our tree based in Woodwalton. Any connection?
