couldn't find any McElwains in townland of Cloghoge, but there are some listed in neighbouring townlands.
1766 john McElwain in Altnamackin
1830 james McElwain in Skerrif  Tichburn
1830 samuel  McElwain  in Ballynarea
1864 Samuel  McElwain  in Cortamlet

a lot of my family  ( Brown, Megaw, Johnston, Robinson, )   were living in these townlands as well.

i know that my great grandad was in the irish fussliers  in the 1880/90 he was a boxer thats all i know...Thanks for replying
