James Hughes of Bathampton married Elizabeth Davis at St. James in Bath in 1787. This one does show on FreeREG

http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Marriages&RecordID=2047619

But that is actually extracted from the Dwelly's Transcript and doesn't show the full details. A full transcript is also on FreeREG, and has the marriage, but it doesn't show up. That's down to a problem that I have already fixed, but since the last rebuild of the database so it won't show until after the next one.

Again you'll find the full transcript on the Bath Hundred group. It shows he was from  Bathampton, the marriage was by licence and the witnesses were Ann BROOKS and Richard STRANGE.

I've no family from Cambridgeshire either, strictly North and West, but thanks anyway.

David

Hi
I don't know if it's one and the same but I notice you have Thomas Butcher as having a son Thomas Butcher 1821. My family interest are the Brewers of Bath. I have an Elizabeth Brewer, who also came from quite a wealthy family marrying a Thomas Butcher in 1851, is this your Thomas? He was a Wholesale grocer and they were very well off.
Whilst not a direct ancestor it's always good to make other connections.

As a possible further confirmation, Thomas 1821 died in 1861, his executor was his brother a William Butcher, who I see in the list of births you have been given.

Yes, Thomas Butcher was my gt gt uncle, the brother of Richard 1816-1882. They were two of the sons of Thomas Butcher born in Cardington, Shropshire, in 1773, d 1846 Bath. Thomas was a younger son of Richard Butcher Esq of Chatwall Hall, Cardington, Shropshire, and he obviously got sent off to make the most of the produce of the various Butcher farms. He married Sarah Hughes, daughter of James b 1776 Camerton and Sarah. I think Thomas senior did do rather well for himself because he bought 11 Duke Street which judging from Google maps was quite a classy place to live!

My descent is from Richard Butcher Thomas' eldest son who inherited a lot of land in Shropshire from his uncle, Richard of Chatwall, and the land stayed in the family until 1896 when my idiot gt grandfather, Richard Thomas Butcher, sold it all off! Just no consideration for later generations :D

I have my tree on ancestry - if you'd like to see it, email me at * and I'll send you an 'invitation'.
Kind regards

Yes I have a tree on Ancestry and I have just started adding in some of Thomas's 1821 children with Elizabeth Brewer. You'll see I found a Will for this Thomas who died young and he left about 14,000 so yes the family did rather well. All the Brewers did well for themselves too in Bath and Bristol.
I'll email you and invite you too.Byr for now Clare.
