Thomas Butcher of Bath
« on: Thursday 05 April 12 10:51 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find the marriage record of Thomas Butcher b 1773 d 1846 Bath, and Sarah Unknown (who was born in Bathampton abt 1789). The marriage must have taken place round about 1815. Any help would be much appreciated.

According to Bristol & Avon FHS transcripts

Thomas BUTCHER bach of Bath Abbey married
Sarah HUGHES of the parish of Bathampton
At Bathampton Parish Church by licence
On 10th February 1815

I did have a quick look for a baptism of Thomas in Bath Abbey transcripts, but not there

Thank you so much, Trish - no I didn't have any of those so that just makes my day!

The Butchers originally came from Cardington in Shropshire (Richard Butcher senior lived at Chatwall Hall near Cardington, and they farmed all round there - I think Thomas was sent to Somerset to make sure the farmers had somewhere to sell their goods:-)
Thanks again

Yes, I have, thank you. I was just saying to my husband that I have learned more about my 3x gt grandfather today than in all the years I've been doing the tree. I have managed to download his will from the National Archives - he owned 11 Duke Street in Bath which from Google Maps seems to be quite a place - and seems to have left a lot of money to his wife and children. He is stated to be a tea dealer in some places, grocer in others and tallow chandler in others - whatever, he made a pile doing it!!
And it's all thanks to you very kind people on Rootschat!
Kind regards
Honor
