Joseph Pennell b 1807
« on: Tuesday 03 April 12 02:33 BST (UK) »
I am in need of help tracing Joseph Pennell born abt 1807, in Chelsea, Middlesex area.  He was later married to a Lucy b abt 1810 (maiden name unknown).  I am hoping to find the names of the parents and siblings of Joseph.  Jospeph may have been baptised at St. Leonard's, Shoreditch.

Also record of marriage for Lucy's maiden name.  I believe they may have been married in 1829. Any help is much appreciated.

thanks

Did they only have 1 Child Jane 1829, Northfleet, Kent?
(I see in 1841 she is a Servant age 12 with Nichols under PENNCH).

For others trying to help;
1841 Joseph is born c 1811, Not in County
1851 c 1810, Chelsea, Middlesex
1861 c 1807, Kennington, Surrey
Living in Northfleet, Kent

1871 Lucy is born c 1804, Hoo, Kent
(With Grand/Daughter Elizabth now Mrs Riley and Grand/Daug Mary Ann DADSON down as 1871, 2mths, actual age 20, 1851 (I presume Janes Daug)

I cant find a Marriage or Christening for either Joseph/Lucy.
Hopefully someone else can help you.

Trish :)

It's possible that they married in the North Kent area as their children were born in there. You could try the Medway CityArk website but it's not indexed you'd just have to trawl through lots of images of marriages and baptisms in the possible Parishes and hope for the best!

Good Luck

Sue

As you can see from the census records the actual date of Joseph  and Lucy is a bit of a mystery.  Since I have not located a record of birth or baptism for either I am guessing, but most other family trees that I have seen on Ancestry.com seem show Joseph Pennell b 1807 and Lucy Pennell b 1804 (Lucy's maiden name is unknown to me since I have not found a record of marriage).  I have seen other Pennells referenced on RootsChat.com but I have not been able to find any record linking Joseph to any of them.

Jane Pennell/Dadson, b 1829 (Jane PENNELL christened 4th April 1829 St. Botolphs Northfleet) appears to be their only child. At age 12 Jane is listed under the name as (Pennch) in the 1941 census living with a Ch Nichols, and Sarah Nichols.

Jane marries Henry Dadson b 1824 (married Dec 8 1850, St Botolphs Parish, Northfleet)

Jane had a child at age 17 before her marriage to Henry Dadson:
Elizabeth Pennell/Riley b Jun 28 1846, but she appears to have been raised by her grandparents (Joseph and Lucy)

1851 census
Kent, Northfleet, Dist1b, page9
Bow Street, Northfleet
Joseph PENNELL (Head) 41 b.1810 Chelsea Middlesex Labourer
Lucy PENNELL (Wife)47* b.1804 Cliffe Kent Char woman
Thomas ALDER (Scholar) 11 b.1840 Northfleet
Elizabeth PENNELL (G/child) 5 b.1846 Northfleet

Is Thomas ALDER likely to be a clue to Lucy's maiden name. Is he related or just there on the census night.

This looks likely to be his baptism at Northfleet

Samuel ALDER married Ann EPSOM at Chalk in 1828.
