Thank you.
How do I access the CofI records?

Looks like some progress if the two parishes are so close. The James found by LH looks very possible as the father in 1863.  James jnr sailed for Australia approx 1850

PRONI (Public Records Office of Northern Ireland) has many parish records for Northern Ireland - so that's the place to try first.

You may find transcripts of some parishes online, either on free or pay-websites. Have a look at the resources topics on the Co. Down board...

Hi

You might like to look through:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/SURNAMES/Afrontpage.htm

where you'll see a lot of information on the Down parish and its residents - including the McCulloughs and Nicholsons.  There is also a listing of a Mrs Elizabeth Nicholson who died at Killiney in 1884 but was buried Donacloney parish graveyard.

Ironically, my Warren family have connections with that particular house in Killiney as my grandfather's brother worked there for years!

Cheers

Wonderful. That is the correct Elizabeth Nicholson (McCullough).
Unfortunately there is no sign of her husband John or my great grandfather James McCullough her  brother but  now I know where she is buried which would surely confirm that both she and James originated from Donacloney.

Now all I need is some kind soul to read her headstone!!

Another coincidence...Warrens were my great grandparents! However that was in Suffolk UK.

I have a letter written by Elizabeth from the Courtna Farraga in 1876 , not long before she died. I did not know she had children, how sad the baby died.
That would give me however an indication of her age. Her brother James was born approx 1822 so she was much older.

Can you tell me what the Source MIs stands for.
many thanks again

MI = Memorial Inscription, i.e. from a headstone
