Hi David,

How did you establish John's parents' names?  They are not usually given on marriage records at this date.

There is a marriage of a William Russell to Sarah Hatt at Buxted 14 April 1784, both otp.

William Russell is extremely common in Sussex.  There are a number of possibilities e.g.

William Russell bapt 30 Oct 1760 Buxted, son of Thomas & Elizabeth Russell
William Russell bapt 21 Dec 1756 Wadhurst, son of Thomas & Mary Russell

Have you any idea how old he was when he died?

Nell

Hi,
Thanks for your quick reply. I have a well documented birth of John and his siblings, born between 1785 and 1805, showing parents as William and Sarah. The William and Sarah in Buxted have children attributed to them in Buxted contemporaneous with John and siblings so unlikely to be John's parents in my view.
Numerous Williams ... don't I know it :-)
The ones I am tending towards are William / Wilken 1759 and 1766 sons of William and Sarah. There is a marriage for William and Sarah 1755 in Burwash. There is also a William bn 1739 (poss father for William).
Thank you for the two possibilities you have supplied.
I have some evidence to support William's death before or in 1840.
Cheers,
David

Erm, not finding that marriage at all.  Nothing in Burwash around that date.  :-\

Hi,
My apologies. I am looking for the marriage of William and Sarah, parents of John and others born between 1785 and 1805.
My assumption, got to start somewhere, is that William would have been between 25 and 35 at time of marriage making his birth between 1750 and 1760.
One family that looks about right in Burwash is William and Sarah who had the following children bap in Burwash:
William 13 September 1759
Thomas 24 September 1761
Stephen 21 January 1763 bur 8 Apr 1763 Burwash
James 6 May 1764
Wilkin chr 31 March 1766
Sarah 4 December 1767
Richard 6 April 1771

Cheers,
David
