Queensland cemetery search
« on: Saturday 31 March 12 09:28 BST (UK) »
Hi, I am looking for what the local cemeteries would be nearest to 24 Brighton Road in Kurilpa, Griffith electorate in Queensland. The couple I am looking for and who I suspect died in the area, lived at that address up until 1963. Their names were William Hamilton Paterson and his wife Nellie Paterson nee Roff. With luck if I can find the names of the likely cemeteries where they lived the cemeteries will either have online records or I can e-mail the staff at the cemetery to determine whether this is where the couple were buried. They were both born about 1890 so are unlikely to be the people of the same or similar names in the Ryerson Index.
Many thanks,
Craig.

It would seem that 24 Brighton Road in Kurilpa, Griffith electorate in Queensland doesn't exist. Where did you get it from?

Griffith covers an area of approximately 60 sq km of the southern Brisbane suburban area.

I checked http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/community/community-support/funeral-planning-and-grave-search/grave-location-search/index.htm and they aren't listed.

Were they Catholic?

Kurilpa is an indigenous name for West End, the address would be Brighton Road, West End. The nearest cemetery would probably be South Brisbane (otherwise known as Dutton Park).

They are not in Sth Brisbane. See my link. If Catholic, they'll be at Nundah.

Sorry Jamjar, wasn't trying to disagree with you. Was just directing OP to the suburb and nearest cemetery.  :)

Hi, it looks as though someone already has the answer to where Kurilpa is, but I found it when I did a search of Australian voter lists and came up with William and Nellie living in the electorate of Kurilpa district, Griffith sub-district in Queensland in 1963 and before-hand. I had guessed from looking on an online map this was part of Brisbane. Nellie was born on 2 November 1889, I presume this was in Invercargill, New Zealand, where her parents Charles Roff and Jessie Roff nee Taylor lived at the time. I don't know where or when William was born. He first appears in electoral rolls in New Zealand in Wellington in 1919. I can't see that he served in the armed forces in NZ in WWI. Nellie also appeared in a 1919 Wellington roll, previously she had been in the South Island of New Zealand, so they might have been married in Wellington, but of course they might have followed tradition and married where Nellie's parents were living: Invercargill. I have only just found this couple so don't know too much about them including their denomination.
Craig.
