You can order online direct from the GRO using the reference I gave above.  Cost is £9.25

www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Births March qtr 1849
Elizabeth Twelves    Chesterfield  19 513

Are you sure her father was Simon and not Samuel?  There is an 1851 entry with a father Samuel who was a moulder

This is so amazing - thank you so much for all your help :) I will send away for Elizabeth's birth certificate.  Yes, Samuel could well be her father's name.  Can I send for Samuel's birth certificate, do I need a reference number too?
Good to see that John was just away from home visiting - that solves the mystery! :)

Thats for the info re Samuel Twelves.  I will send away for the birth certificates and see if I can get any more info on Samuel's line - doesnt look as though it will be easy.  Bridgart's apparently were once named Bridgett but it was changed at some point.
Am so glad I found this site. You are all very helpful :D

Hi,

In  the 1841 Census Derby  HO107/199   F 10  Pg 14
Civil Parish - St. Werburgh
Hundred - Derby Borough

Listed as

John BARDGNIT  (error in transcription)  age 50  Joiner
living with him as House Keeper is
ANN WALTERS

Have found a Birth Registration of Free BMD:-

Samuel Ebenezer Bridgart June Q 1848 Derby 19 583

Emma Maria Bridgart  June Q 1850  Derby 19 641

So you are looking for a marriage from June 1841 to June 1848
