Hi DeanNH

Hope you are further on with your research by now - sorry you didn't get any reply to your post last year.

I am looking for a McQuade family left Monaghan 1832, sailed to Newfoundland and settled in Irish Town, New Brunswick. One of them had a daughter Susan born 1840 who married Walter Hennessey.

Just wondered if it might link with you in some way. ;D

Hi Saz,

Just wondering what your McQuades were called and if you knew anymore on them?

My Francis McQuade left Co Monaghan c1848-50 with wife and kids to live in Glasgow Scotland.

Francis McQuade was born Ireland c1813, I presume Co Monaghan as his children were born there. He was a Cabinet Maker-Joiner.

His parents were a James McQuade, a Farmer and Jane McQuade nee Daley or Riley. Unsure of any other children at this stage.

Hello DeanNH,

What denomination were the McCabe or MacCabe family? Were they  members of the Catholic faith, the Established Church (Anglicans or Church of Ireland), Methodists or Presbyterians?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Hello DeanNH,

The 1858-60 extracts of Griffith's Valuation of Co. Monaghan on John Hayes failteromhat.com website show McCabes in almost every parish in the county.
