Phillip Davies from Merthy Tydfil Glamorganshire Wales
« on: Wednesday 28 March 12 09:37 BST (UK) »
Good evening..

I know this is a needle in a hay stack, but I feel I need some ourside input to shed new light on this family..

I am starting with a   ..
Phillip Davies bc 1850  ..  Merthyr Tydfil  ..  parents of David Davies of Llansadwrn and Ann Jones of Llangyndeirn

I have them all in 1851 census as DAVIS, staying with Ann's widowed mother (Elizabeth Jones) in Penydarren Merthyr Tydfil
In 1861 census , I have David and Ann and Phillip, and other members of the family in Aderdare  (including a William Davies, who is Davids brother, found on  parish records)

My problem is.. I cannot find any of these children on parish records on any of the usual sites, ( other than BDM index, and its almost impossible to pinpoint them exactly)

Is there someplace I have missed, would love some guidance on this ..  ??? ???
  ..  PLEASE  ..

Many tks in advance
Karen of Brisbane

there's always the possibility that they were non-conformist and so don't show up in parish records. Or the parish records that they are in aren't online. Not everything is.

The Genuki page for your parish of interest will give what records there are for the various denominations & where they are if they have survived.

Hello Karen :)

As you know the names of the parents and have found them in census why do you need Baptism info from PRs? I can only see 1 Phillip Davies born in the relevant period in Merthyr T district - born 1850 September quarter, which fits with 8 months old on 1851

Merthyr T volume 26 page 505 (Freebmd)

If you want to trace births of other children, try the local register office and specify all known details, e.g. parent's names, occupation, possible address or Parish, etc

Kind Regards
Morgan

Hi Morgan

Tks for that  ..  but the reason I started with Phillip, was that there were at least 8 children all with very common names, in the family, which includes my gggranfather - David Davies bc 1859 , so you see my first hurdle ..  have you seen how many David Davies there are born in Merthyr Tyfdil  :o ..  and his sister Rachael Davies bc 1865 - both came to Australia, ( at different times).

I have David's marriage cert of 1879 to Elizabeth Abraham (shd read Abrahams) at Nebo Chapel Ystrad Rhondda .. and on the 1181 census  ..  and arriving into Australia  ..  but no birth/bap document'

I have the info to  support Rachael's marriage to Joseph Dixon in 1884, but no birth or Bap documents   ..  I am about to order their marriage cert..

So thought if I started at a fairly unusual name in the family, it might lead to the rest of the children and their baps ....

Cheers

Hi Karen  :)

I can appreciate your difficulty when trying to find the right BMD and unfortunately I think that the PRs may well present a similar difficulty. Looking for children of a Collier David Davies and wife Ann (nee Jones) in Penydarren.......

Perhaps Phillip's birth certificate would provide more information such as a specific address that would help the registrar to locate David's certificate. As David was 12 months old on 1861 census, that helps to narrow down the likely births to probably 1st quarter of 1860. Registrars have local knowledge and should be able to find a birth in Penydarren to these parents.

Good luck with your search
