« on: Monday 26 March 12 17:43 BST (UK) »
My Grandmother and Great Grandmother were both cremated and there ashes buried in St Oswalds Church Grounds in Preston. The church is now a housing estate I believe.  I am trying to find out what happened to there ashes. I have spoken to Lancashire CC, the Registrar, Preston Cemetry office and drawn a blank.  Any ideas would be appreciated

Were the ashes actually buried in an urn?  If so - they would have had to purchase a plot and you should have the plot number on documentation

Or were they scattered within the church grounds?

Thanks for quick response. My mum says the were buried in urns.  I dont have any documentation.   My parents moved from Preston in 1959 to Belfast and were not notified that the church was being pulled down.  We would just like to know were the urns have been moved to.  Any more ideas please

Hi

I have found the address of the vicar of St Oswalds on Harwood Road Preston. Is this the right place? I will send the details to you in a message. Even if this is not the correct place perhaps he will be able to help you.

Heather

Hi,
I can't help you with regard your question but can I please ask if the Elsie Ward, d 13 Feb 1959 is in fact 'Elsie May Tilbury b.1883' who married Edward Harry Ward ?

I hope you find the answer to your question  :)

Thank You

Hi sorry I have a different Elsie Ward who married a Richard Roskill in 1956.

As of todays date I am still awaiting a response from the church.  But I am going to Preston at the end of May and hoping that there will be something in the archives at the Lancashire Evening Post.

Good luck with your search
