Thomas Mee - Eastwood
« on: Monday 26 March 12 15:21 BST (UK) »
Helloooo my lovely fellow family history addicts  ;D

Just wondering if anyone could help. I am not sure what records were destroyed or still exist in Eastwood - and I have a rather nasty cold so cant go check  :(

I am trying to see if there is any record of Thomas Mee parents.. This is the info I have so far..

Thomas Mee born 1792 Eastwood.
Married Fanny Bradley 17th October 1821 Eastwood
Died 1857 Radford Nottingham.

I would LOVE to be able to get his parents and get this going back a bit further - also a burial place would be fantastic.. I dont know Radford to dont know where any cemetarys would be.. Thank you lovely people. x

Hi

Eastwood is covered on the Notts FHS CD, but no Thomas Mee I'm afraid.

However, I noticed that Thomas & Fanny named one of their children Phillis and there is a Thomas Mee who married a Phillis Wood in Eastwood, but not until 1797.  Thomas may have been illegitimate or Phillis could have been married before, Just a thought.   The entry in the Phillimore marriage index states Phillis was from Heanor in Derbyshire.

Thomas Mee married Fanny Bradley 17-10 1821 in St Mary Greasley.
Iam wondering where you got his birth from? If IGI they are all submitted entries with no details to back them up and go from 1790 to 1802- that Thomas being the son of Phillis and Thomas. There is one baptism in Heanor but again submitted,  30 Jan 1799 , having Phillis as mother.

That actually could be right then... I just looked at my info and I got the year of birth from census records BUT.. two different years on the records he appears on.. 1851 says 1792, but 1841 says 1801... I just used the 1851 date as I assumed it would be more accurate than 1841, but maybe this isnt the case at all..

Hi Emma

I have just enlarged the image for the 1851 census and I think his age is either 51 or 52  so birth around 1799 / 1800

That seems to have been perfectly normal at that time, after all what else was he to do with 12 kiddies and he had to earn a living--so he married a nanny!!! Hopefuly she was kind to them. Unlike my gt gt grandmother who killed one of her stepchildren! And yes they married within weeks of his first wife's death.
