1918 Electoral Roll Lookup please
« on: Monday 26 March 12 13:33 BST (UK) »
Hello - I would be so grateful if anyone could look up the Electoral Register for Wood Green, please, and see who was living at 22 Commerce Road in 1918.  I have a death registered there on 4 June or William Manderson.
Many thanks for any help.

If I'm looking at the correct Commerce Road, Postcode N22 then there are no persons entitled to vote at number 22.  Haringey> wood green >1918 Polling District J

Looks like shops, with voters living elsewhere.

Hi

Electoral registers are usually compiled in the latter part of the year. Compiling of registers was suspended during the duration of The First World War so the register compiled in the latter part of 1918 would be the first one for four years and the first one which enfranchised all men over the age of 21. Prior to 1918 not every man had the right to vote so would not be included on earlier registers (approximately 2 out of 3 men from 1884 to 1918 could vote). In 1918 some women for the first time appeared on electoral registers for general elections, but not all women over 21 until 1928. Electoral registers only contain those who had the right to vote at the time and who also chose to register for voting, so not necessarily everyone living at a particular address.

Valda

Thank you so much, Pauline and Valda, for your help and information.  So sorry not to have thanked you before now - have been away.
