Does anyone have a listing of burials for...
« on: Sunday 25 March 12 00:42 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for a listing of burials for the churchyard (St. Cadwaladr's) at Llangadwaladr.  A relative has looked for family gravestones there, but has not found any that can be identified as 'ours'.  She reports however that several stones are illegible, so perhaps a listing will confirm that the following are buried there:

Elinor 'Ellen' Owen, wife of Henry, b. abt. 1816, d. 21-1-1850 at Ty Gwyn of scarlet fever.

Their children all born at Ty Gwyn were:
Richard Owen b. 21-1-1843
Robert Owen b. 9-8-1844
Margaret Owen Thomas b. 21-3-1846 d. 12-2-1934  buried in Dwyran C.M. Chapel churchyard
Catherine Owen b. 14-10-1847
Jane Owen b. 19-5-1849

Also looking for this baby of Margaret Owen and Robert Thomas:
Robert Thomas b. 4-2-1868 d. 1-1869

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I have this information if you would like it?

Do you know if any memorial inscriptiosn exist online? I'd love to read some of mine but can't make it up to Llangadwaladr.

Thank you for the dates of burial in Llangadwaladr, but what is your actual source of the information?  Could you possibly scan it and send it as an attachment to me for genealogical purposes?  I live in Central New York State.   ::)  Also, what does the "Hermon" listed after the date of burial mean?  For all the others, are an actual date and cause of death shown in the record?  For Elinor Owen, is a place of birth or record of parents' names shown in your source?  Thanks again.

Source is findmypast but i dont own the copyright so cant send scans.

Hermon is an area of llangadwaladr.

No date of death shown or cause of death. Death certs will have to be purchased.

No other info shown for Elinor Owen. British burial records are quite vague.

Hi,

Gwynedd Family History Society has various booklets for sale, which include all the burials you have mentioned.

The 3 books are - Church Burials for Llangadwaladr 1851-1950; Burials index for parishes in South Western sector of Anglesey 1813-1850; Memorial Inscriptions of Capel Dwyran (CM) Llangeinwen.

The Dwyran book has Robert Thomas age 71 (death 1913), his wife Margaret  age 87 (death 1934) and Margaret Thomas, his granddaughter age 19 (1924)  - Grave number 290.

Hope this helps

Alan

Hi Alan,

Any idea if memorial inscriptions for Llangadwaladr or Aberffraw are on their way? I live so far away from there so can't make the trip to the church as often as I'd like.

Many thanks,

Hi,

I would look at the Gwynedd FHS web site (chtg.gwis.co.uk) and see what extra details it can provide - the books can be ordered by post or by e-mail, and the site will also tell you what other publications are available.
