Monkwearmouth
« on: Saturday 24 March 12 19:34 GMT (UK) »
Are there any Monkwearmouth records from mid-1820-1833?  My 4xgt-grd/father, Cuthbert Dunbar, lived there.  He was a tailor and Pigot's 1828-29 show him at George St., Mwmth.  Not sure if that was business premises or home, whether he worked for a business/company or on his own.  He died in 1833, buried 30th June 1833 at St.Peter's (parish entry no. 638) age only 42.  If  possible, any info greatly appreciated, regarding work, circumstances of death, or any mention.  Wife was Mary (nee Brown), children John,Mary Ann, one Jane who died 1828, (bap. Houghton-le-Spring), Thomas (birthplace unknown), another Jane born 1830, Margaret 1832 (both born Mwmth), so he left Mary with very young children.  By 1841 she seems to be in the household of a John Mulveney in Earsdon, N'land.  Thanks to anyone interested in this.

You can see George Street on the 1844 map at http://lewis.dur.ac.uk/pip/iwspip.asp?img=p2357&ref1=2228 It runs between Broad Street and Thomas Street, to the left of the title.

also you can try the excellent Durham Records online:

http://www.durhamrecordsonline.com/
