Mayor of Louth?

Im hoping someone can help me,
I have recently been told that my great great grandfather was Mayor of Louth at one point in his life. I was wondering if anyone could either give me or point me in the direction where I might be about to find out more. He was born 1849 and died 1928 and it was sometime between then (not exactly sure on dates, but possibly around the turn of the century?).
His name was Samuel Jesse Jackson.

According to this site a Sydney JH Jackson was Mayor twice in the early 20th century. Is this possibly him?

No, he was born 1885, quite young to be mayor in 1918, but there you go.

SHJ was a corn merchant and other things.  The business, even in 1933 was in his father's name, M Jackson & son, despite

True Geoff, But as a businessman at the age of 33 I think it possible. I am more concerned at the likely wrong Christian names.

This is interesting, I have a picture of him in a mayoral chain and it definatly sys Mayor of Louth on the back of the picture.
I'm now wondering if he was mayor or somewhere else and because he was born in Louth this is where the confusion has arose or something else.
Any ideas?

I think I may have just found his birth record as Samuel Jesse William Jackson in Oct 1849

I don't know about earlier in the 20th century, but for as long as I can remember the local newspaper  has always printed an article about the 'mayor-to-be' or 'new mayor sworn in'. I think new mayors take office in May.
I expect Louth Library will have old newspapers. If you can't get there yourself, then because you have a year and an approximate time of year, staff may be willing to do a look-up for you.

That is the modern practice, but prior to 1947 (or 48) local elections were held in early November and new Councils took office towards the end of that month.
