Edith May Crook nee Wyatt. Did she go to live in the UK?
« on: Wednesday 21 March 12 08:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone

I am writing this post from Queensland Australia. Our family for a number of years have tried to find a date of death for Edith May in Australia without success. I thought it possible she may have gone to the UK. Details are

Edith May Wyatt b.26 Aug 1885 Qld Australia

Married Robert James Crook in 1916 Sydney.

Last record we have for her is 1943 Electoral Roll Entry for Sydney.

New South Wales and Queensland BDM's have both sent us a Result of Search letter saying they have no record of her death. We have searched other online indexes in Australia without success.

The reason I thought she may have gone to the UK to live (and later died there) is because her father was born in the UK.  Her father William Edward Wyatt was born circa 1857 in Stratton Gloucester England. In Australia his occupation was listed as a Sailor. I have no other info about him.  Also, we can't find a death certificate for him in Australia. He may have returned to the UK.

Thankyou for your help.

Hi

I'm afraid that the William identified by Hollie is unlikely to be your man, because in 1891 he was a Coastguard in Kent, at Reculvers. It was normal for a man to enter the CG Service immediately on leaving the Navy.

Your best bet is to look for a merchant seamen.

Thank you Martin and Hollie I appreciate your replies. Recently, we discovered William Edward Wyatt arrived in Sydney 2/2/1875 onboard the Cutty Sark.

Hollie the entry you have found we think could be the father to our William Edward Wyatt.  I need to do more research to confirm.

We are still trying to find a date and place of death for Edith May Crook (nee Wyatt) in Australia or the world.

Regards

Judy
