Bastardy Bonds - Mitchell
« on: Tuesday 20 March 12 20:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi

My Mitchell line have always proved stubborn but would love to knock down at least one wall by finding a father!

My 2xGtGrandmother Elizabeth Mitchell had at least 3, probably 4, children with no father shown.

Elizabeth was baptised in Haughton le Skerne 17/2/1833 - her eldest, I believe, was Sarah born 15/10/1850 in Ernest Place, St Giles

I have no details about Elizabeth Ann but possibly born c 1858 in Carrville

There were then twins William & Elizabeth born 9/2/1863 were born in Moody's Bldgs, Gilesgate.

I'm not sure about Elizabeth's father Joseph - per census he could have come from Barwick on Tees. I have a possible baptism date in Stainton in 1800, mother Mary (possibly spelt Mitchill) but again no father shown

Can anyone help with all or even just one of my brickwalls - keeping fingers crossed

Angelfish

Could you point me in the right direction to find a Bastardy Bond in County Durham.
My Great Grandfather Thomas Dickenson Todd was Baptised on the 4th Oct 1846. His mother Margaret Todd was a Widow.
On his Marriage certificate Thomas Tood named his father as George Dickenson.
Thomas goes on to name one of his children as George Dickenson Todd.
I wondered if a Basterdy Bond was created for Thomas by George Dickenson.

Thank you in anticipation.
Brian

Hi Brian, sorry I couldn't find anything under Todd or Dickenson,as I said I really don't know how complete the index (it covers just over two fiches)is,so it may be worth a phone call or e-mail to Durham Record Office.
