Hi

I am researching my family (the Corrs). Whilst most of my relatives now live in Dublin I've found that they came from Roscommon originally. Please see my other thread: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,584720.0.html
I found that my great great great grandfather Henry Corr (father of Luke, Maurice and Henry Corr) lived in Durham House, Co. Roscommon in about 1877. Could anyone shed any light on this Durham House or on any of the Corrs who resided there?

There are references to newspaper articles on the family and other references

This is a reference to the parish of Kilbride  at that time

I am not sure if Durham House and Durham Lodge are the same but the Lodge passed to the SANDYS family during the 1800s
I am not sure at present but up to quite recently (last 5 years) there were members of the extended Sandys family still living there.

I have exhausted land estates but have got some interesting things from it.
I think Durham house is also known as Derrane house which is on the osi viewer map but is in ruins in the late 19th century. I'm thinking maybe Derrane house was a large farmhouse rather than something spectacular seeing as there's nothing about it online.
We found this yesterday..

My Grandmother was Margaret Sandys.

We live in Roscommon and we also own Durham Lodge.

I am not sure if we were related to the Corrs or if the Sandys family bought the house from the Corrs.

Elizabeth Sandys was my 3rd GG. She was married 9 Jan 1823 in Castlerea to John St John. Trying to find out when she was born and died. She was the daughter of John Percy Sandys.

Just came across this post by accident and it relates indirectly to something I was researching. The Roscommon Journal for February 1844 carried an article about an attack on Martin Kenny the steward to C W. Blakeney of Hollywell (the next townland to Derrane) and I quote "that very active and praiseworthy magistrate, Edmond Corr Esq of Durham proceeded to the places and succeeded in apprehending a young man of the name of Tighe". I think that confirms a Corr association with Durham House in 1844. Hope this is some small help.
