Malarkey name in Co Monaghan
« on: Monday 19 March 12 15:50 GMT (UK) »

Hi, I have already posted on the Fermanagh page with this enquiry but think I may have a connection in Co Monaghan.
My Mother's maiden name was MALARKEY and the family moved to Glasgow 1847/1848 and on the 1861 census they are down as having originated from Fermanagh but I have noticed that on many of the later 1901 census returns for the Malarkey name and it's variants that they were prevalent in County Monaghan but with their birthplace in Fermanagh.
Does anyone know if the Malarkey name was commonplace in County Monaghan and is it still?

Many thanks, Gerry.
