You're not wrong Ros - the house is lovely.  Looks like one of those in English country living mags.

Do you need info re their earlier life - I see five of the children's baptisms in Stoke parish church.
Other baptisms are at Bower Hinton Chapel in Martock, Somerset
John Darby CAVE  baptised 3 Mar 1822
Susan, baptised 4 Jan 1823
Martha born 29 Aug 1832, baptised 28 Sep 1832.
Jane born 03 Jul 1834, baptised 21 Aug 1834
Lucy  b 7 Feb 1836 bp 4 Mar 1836
Bower Hinton is apparently a Methodist chapel, trustees of which are William and John DARBY - perhaps relatives of Susan(nah)?

I note also these neighbours (next household) in 1841.  No occupations given for these.
John Rendall   20
Mary Rendall   20
Amelia Rendall   13

Information re the parsonage farm in Stoke.
http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=66503

The Robinsons, the Rodbards, and the Hawkesworths were all absentee landlords, and the parsonage estate was farmed by a succession of tenants. Members of the Chaffey family held it from 1762 at least until 1815, (fn. 144) followed by Francis Stroud, 1818–20, (fn. 145) Charles Cave, 1820–47, (fn. 146) and William Darby, 1848 at least until 1875.

Hi again to you and thanks for your ears!!!
John Churchill Rendall and Amelia (not sure about Mary) were Charles Cave's niece and nephew. They are the children of Charles Rendall/Randell and Phebe CAVE.
The family all seems very close,as the name Rendall then became a "Family" name in my line where it was the second name of some male children.
And yes the Darbys were Susanah's brothers. William Darby took over the lease of The Priory Farm when Charles gave it up in 1847 and stayed on the land until at least 1875.
This is what makes me think that Charles still lived there until emigrating.

It's that couple of years 1847-1848-1849 that elude me in which the family packed up and found a ship to take all but John Darby Cave at once to Aus.....he followed and arrived here just prior to his sister, Mary marrying in Adelaide.

Do you have the article mentioned in Muss's find that describes their journey? It says that the Observer 13/07/1907 has an account of Charles Cave journey in 1849.

I don't know whether they mean The Observer (from London) or is there an Observer in SA which is yet to be digitised?

I must admit that I tried to look in the London Observer but there is only an edition (a digital edition that I have access to anyway) every week so the 14th but not the 13th

cheers,
   Ros
