Hello, can someone help please?
My Great Uncle, John Carrington Dunn b 1878 in Sunderland Durham. He was awarded the 'Freeman of the City of Sunderland' for his contribution to the war whilst he was in the Imperial Yeomanry. He was then involved in the Boer War. He then emigrated to South Africa. We have seen him coming to/from England and South Africa on various ships passenger lists during the 1920/30's presumably to visit his parents??
We have found it very difficult to find out any more information about John C Dunn. We would love to know if he married and had children, which we could then possibly find out more from.
We have a record of his death in Feb 1955,Western Cape in South Africa.
I have seen a reference to his estate papers but not sure how to access them. This was the info I have:
KAB
MOOC    6/9/23536    523/55    DUNN, JOHN CARRINGTON. ESTATE PAPERS.   1955   1955
Hope this makes sense??
Thanks
Michelle

Hi to get a copy of this info you can try this. The Genealogical Society of South Africa has a "pay to use" service which will enable you to obtain pictures of documents held in the National Archives.

Go to http://www.eggsa.org and select Content --> On Line Shop --> order Archive documents.  Once you have selected the currency, select "Enter the Shop" and then select "Archive photos" (in yellow on the blue band) and follow the instructions.

Much quicker than trying to get the Archives to reply to your e-mail requests!!

If they cannot help try Ancestry 24.Good luck Derek

Hi Derek
Thanks for replying......I will try the Ancestry24 site because the eggsa.org is no longer dealing with Cape Town Archive document requests, its on the eggs.org website which I went on last night to order the documents I wanted!
But thanks for your time.
