Howick Family Emsworth
« on: Sunday 18 March 12 14:40 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone has access to Emsworth parish records and could do a look up for me , please.  I have a Sarah Howick born c1824 in Emsworth, Hampshire.  Sarah married William Howick in 1845 but I can't find any certain sign of her in the 1841 census nor information regarding baptism, parents etc.

Anything gladly received - with thanks.

Audrey

I notice that the marriage of William Howick and Sarah Howick is in the RD of Westhampnett, ( Westhampnett    7   745) and that    the following ref on A******y Class: HO107; Piece: 1100; Book: 2; Civil Parish: Appledram; County: Sussex; Enumeration District: 2; Folio: 4; Page: 3; Line: 14; GSU roll: 474674.

has
 Geo Howick   50
Elizabeth Howick   35
Edmund Howick   10
Sarah Howick   10
Ellen Howick   6
Maria Howick   3
Sarah Goldwire   45

all in Appledram, in Sussex.which is in the RD of Westhampnett. Unfortunately this reference does not include Emsworth. This Sarah was baptised 16th August 1828, so making her around 17 on her wedding day, maybe a bit young. Parents George Howick & Charlotte. (IGI) (marriage 24 July 1845 at Appledram which is in Westhampnett RD)

I see that there is a William Howick in 1841 in South Bersted, aged 15, son of William Howick. That family lived in a flint cottage, the house was up for sale in 1845.

Tom,

Thank you for looking at this for me.  I'd found the baptism and marriage you refer to and seen the 1841 census return.  I wasn't entirely  happy about tying these three together for the same reasons you mention.  I was hoping someone could see a birth or baptism of Sarah in Emsworth - to confirm something, at least!
