WAAF Parade Photograph

can anyone tell me the purpose of this parade, date on back of photo is 21st July 1943

Sorry, can't help, but have been trying to see if my mum's on the photo!

You could try the WAAF Association, (contact details must be on google) - they're sure to have an archivist. My mum loved the reunions.

According to The Times there was a parade through London for the Belgian Indpendance Day celebrations on that date. Maybe this is part of that parade.

There is no mention of which units took part but in the photo I can also see what looks like the Stars and Stripes being carried by the group behind the WAAFs.

I have had a look at he original and you are correct

There is the stars and stripes behind the WAAF's

I assumed as the photograph was from the Birmingham mail that the parade was in Birmingham.

Silly you know what   ass/u/me makes

Hang on BruceL,
Plays In The Parks was a feature of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. So looking again at Birmingham - and thinking the parade would be in the area of the Town Hall, I came to the postcode B3 3DQ. Look at the northern edge of Victoria Square. The buildngs and road layout have changed in recent years, but I think the parade is passing The Council House.

I would have to agree with you.

So it looks as though this parade was in Birmingham in 1943.

There are names and messages on the back maybe I should scan and post here !

A scan of the back would be a good idea, you never know what might transpire.
My owner does do strange things:
Comes in the front door and then walks to the garden door to be let out.

An afterthought...
it is deffo The Council House.

this photo clearly shows the distinctive building to the right of the Council House.
Wonder where the cameraman was positioned? Up on one of the statues perhaps.
