Rawleigh Davis 1670-1719
« on: Wednesday 14 March 12 22:26 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find any information about Rawleigh Davis, my  6th great grandmother. She was born about 1670 and died in February 1719 in Grendon Underwood, Bucks.
Her father was Richard Davis and I would also welcome any information about him.
Rawleigh married John Lovell, my 6th great grandfather, on 16 April 1693 in St Leonards Church Grendon Underwood, Bucks. According to at least 2 Family Trees on Ancestry.co.uk Rawleigh was born in Alverstoke Hants but I have been unable to find the evidence for this.
I think her birth place is much more likely to be Alverscot in Oxon. Much nearer to Grendon Underwood and the birthplace of her husband.
A look up in Alverscot and surrounding parish registers might throw some more light on Rawleigh and Richard's origins. My thanks in advance for any help.

Hi
I've looked on the Alvescot regs and unfortunately could not find your Rawleigh.  These regs are on the OFHS Wit02 CD so I looked on the other parishes on that cd.  There weren't many Davies or variants apart from in North Leigh.  Unfortunately there is a gap in the transcripts 1662-1671 so I could not find anything that may be of any use.  I looked at the parentage of Davies children in the 1670s and there were none with Richard as a father in this time scale although a Richard was baptised to other Davis parents and cropped up occasionally as a baptismal name so perhaps it was a family name.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help

Regards
Steph
