The Reading Mercury

I'm trying to find an extract from the Reading Mercury 1847,it is sited in a few references from a death of a relative that was drowned, though when i go to the British newspaper archives there are no results for 1847 ,can anyone help me find where i could fine these archives.

Have you tried the British Library, I gather they have copies of the Reading Mercury going way back?

If the BL British Newspaper Archive hasn't yet digitised those years of the Reading Mercury, you can either wait in hope that they will, or get the section copied from the original.



If you follow the link in the previous post, you will be able to see what to do. You can order a copy (won't be very cheap) of the relevant article or page, or go to the library yourself to read it. The Newspaper Libray is in Colindale and is an amazing experience!

Reading Central Library also have this newspaper on microfilm.

Might I suggest you update your profile to show where in the world you are. I see from a previous post that a day trip to the Nespaper Library at Colindale in North West London might be out of the question

Explain to them that a visit isn't possible and could they help with a scan of the article by email or a transcription.

(A word of warning about the British Library at Colindale, not all their newspapers are suitable for reproduction as I have found to my own disappointment)

hi,
     i have just had quick search in newspaper index just using the search term reading drowning but first one that comes up is for 1874 a young boy saving another gets droned do you have a name that may be able to help to see if details may appear in another newspaper i cant find the reading paper

For some reason the British Newspaper Archive has missed 1847 when they were digitising the Reading Mercury - perhaps they will get round to it one day.  It would be nice if they added some more recent issues as well - to cover the Great War period.
