Ok So,

A few more bits,

This MAY be Charles' death, but there was another Charles Deardon living in Rochdale.

Charles Deardon
Birth abt 1841
registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1917
Age: 76
district: Rochdale
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8e Page : 75

This is him in 1841 in Rochdale

Samuel Dearden 20
Betty Dearden 20
Charles Dearden 4 Mo

Here is Charles on the 1851 census in Elton Lancashire (God help him, he was out working age 12)

Betty Daarden 33
Charles Daarden 12
Joseph Daarden 11
John Daarden 4
Thomas So 2
Eli So 21
Sarah So 18
Margaret So 16
Jane So 16

I have left their surname as it was transcribed also the ones that say 'so' it's actually ditto

There is a possibility for him in 1861 in Wuerdle and Wardle - boarding with what looks like cousins or other relations

In 1881 'myluck' gave you

In 1891 'myluck' gave you

In 1901 he is still alone in Midleton working as a Clogger

I don't think all of the 1911 census are available yet so it's possible he was still alive.

It's possible that his other children died in infancy and their deaths just weren't registered, this was fairly common at the time.

Tara

Here's Charles in an 1890 trade directory for Cropton township in Middleton:

Deardon Cha., clogger, Spiers cottage

Do you know the way I was saying that I think I saw Charles Dearden in Wardle on the 1861 census boarding with other Deardens.

Well, I think this may be where he learnt his trade of 'clogging' before leaving for Ireland.

The attached link has a great article about Wardle where there is a brief mention of clogging but also there is the most fabulous picture of Joe "Clogger" from Wardle in 1930, so you can see exactly what Charles would have looked like at work :)

As well as the 1840 one, there's a second one listed but this time in 1841, per www.lancashirebmd.org.uk

Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1840
Surname   Forename(s)   Sub-District   Registers At   Mother's Maiden Name   Reference
DEARDEN   Charles   Wuerdle and Wardle   Rochdale       WUW/2/317
Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1841
Surname   Forename(s)   Sub-District   Registers At   Mother's Maiden Name   Reference
DEARDEN   Charles   Wuerdle and Wardle   Rochdale       WUW/3/59

I can see from www.freebmd.org.uk that both the 1840 and 1841 births were in Qtr 1 of each year.
Going back to Reply#3, myluck shows that Samuel and Betty are listed on 1841 census (date of which was 6 June 1841) with a 4-month old Charles. So the Q1 1841 birth seems most likely.

Here are Samuel and Betty's marriage details from www.familysearch.org

groom's name:   Samuel Dearden
bride's name:   Betty Widdup
marriage date:   28 Sep 1840
marriage place:   St.Chad, Rochdale, Lancashire, England
groom's father's name:   Charles Dearden
bride's father's name:   George Widdup

I want to thank you all for helping me so much.  You have opened up a new window for me, when I've been having the door shut on my for years.

I'll be ordering some certificates and hope it will take me a little further.

Again, with all my thanks for your time and especially your kindness and support.

Sincerely;
Cas
