I'm at a loss with the Dearden's

Hello to you;

My Great Great Grandfather and Grandmother were married in the St Thomas Parish Church, on July 6, 1863.

Charles Dearden (full age) to Mary Anne Donnelly (of minor age).

Charles Dearden's father was Samuel a Mill Servant.  Mary Anne's father was John Donnelly and his occupation was a tobacconist.

Witnesses at the marriage were Francis Donnelly and Jane Donnelly.

At some point Charles and Mary Anne must have moved to Louth as this is where three of their children were born.

Hugh John Dearden - April 15, 1864 - Drogheda St Peters
James Joseph Dearden - Dec. 21, 1869
Joseph Dearden - Jan. 17, 1875

I have found Joseph (my Gr. Grandfather) on the 1901 Census.  He was in Lancashire, England at this time.

I have no clue what became of the other two boys and their parents Charles or Mary Anne. 

Any help would be beyond appreciated.  Thanks so much!

From www.familysearch.org this looks like a possible death record for Mary Anne.  Age seems about right.

Also www.rootsireland.ie has, as well as baptism records for James and Joseph, an 1868 baptism in Louth for Mary Jane Dearden, daughter of Charles and mother maiden name Donnelly.

Finally, Hugh may have had a twin John, according to familysearch.org

I have had a look this morning and found out a few things that may help

Based on the death of Mary Anne I wondered if Charles would have moved or remarried
There is a Charles Deardon living in Yorkshire on the UK census returns from 1881

1881 in Pickering, Turn Hill, Hartoft With Turnhill, Yorkshire with a Watson Family; shown as a widower and a clogger (wooden shoemaker) aged 40

1891 at Spires Farm, Morley Terrace, Cropton, Yorkshire as head with lodgers aged 50

1891 at Middleton Road Southside, Middleton alone aged 60

no obvious match in 1901
There are no children listed on any of these records

However they all show him as born in Rochdale and if you go back to the 1841 census; in Green, Rochdale, Wuerdale & Wardle; there is a Samuel Deardon aged 20 a labourer with his wife Betty, same age with a 4 month old Charles; also listed are Alice 15, Betty 13 and Sarah 8 presumably his sisters.

There is a marriage record in 1840 Rochdale, Lancashire Jul-Sep Vol 21 Page 420 for Samuel DEARDON with a possibilty of 4 matches one being Betty WIDDUP others Ann, Alice or Rebecca.

There seems to be no immediate sign of Hugh, James or Mary Jane either in England or Ireland.

I would think the record that looks like Hugh having a twin is only referring to his middle name but equally wouldn't rule it out.

Thank you so much for getting back to me and the information you have given me.  I do have the birth certificate for Hugh John.  There was no twin brother as I had thought that as well.

I didn't have the information of when Mary Anne passed so this is fantastic.  I also didn't have any of the information in regards to Charles being in England in various census.

Just to add

I see Joseph Deardon on the 1891 census as a 15 year old boarder / scholar in Uppingham England.

It would appear that there is a chance that his mother died in childbirth or shortly after.

Charles then moved to England and put his son into boarding school.

I just googled Deardon and it looks like you family have been searching a LONG time on a LOT of different forums for Joseph and his father Charles.

Shame you didn't come here first, and sure it would have been resolved in minutes.

I do wish I had found this board earlier.  I've been looking for years for this side of my family.

I am going to order Mary Anne's death certificate and see what she died from.  I think you are right in saying child birth.

I NEVER knew that Joseph was in a boarding school in 1891.  I managed to find him in 1901 and 1911.  Everything prior to that was a road block.

The one thing I can't understand, is where Joseph's siblings are, perhaps they were put into different boarding schools by their father Charles.  Grasping at straws, I know.   

Why can't I find Charles on an earlier census with his father Samuel.  Charles would have only been 10 years old in 1851.

So many questions, but this board  is wonderful and I thank you and everyone else for your kindness.  You really are experts at doing this.  There is no way I could have done this myself.
