Ellenora (nee MAXWELL) CARTER d. Bristol Hot Wells 1827 COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 13 March 12 03:46 GMT (UK) »
Hello!
My GGGG Grandmother Ellenora CARTER (nee MAXWELL)  went to Bristol Wells for her health and died there 24 June 1827, according to a notice in a Cork newspaper. She was the widow of Lt. John Chilton Lambton CARTER who had been posted to Cork. He d. ca 1796. They m. in Cork in 1779.

I am trying to find her parents. Would there be a church record of her burial in Bristol Hot Springs or any documentation of her death? I know this is a tough one so I'll appreciate anything at all.

Hi Suzanne,

There is a burial for Eleanor Carter 21 Jun 1827 at St Andrews Clifton aged 73 which would put her birth around 1754.  As we have no idea where she started life, it would be quite difficult to find her parents.

I could not find them in Bristol but that does mean to say she did not come from there.

So you are looking for a baptism of Eleanor(a) Maxwell circa 1854.

Hope this helps a little.

Elizabeth

Thank you SO much Liz. That is wonderful to have. I didn't have anything concrete about her death, just a newspaper article. So I really appreciate this. I agree, it is pretty well impossible to know where she was born if not stated on the burial papers. She married an officer (My Great x 4 grandfather) in Cork but she was likely from a military family and could've been born anywhere.  SO I guess my journey stops there with her.
Thank you so much again,
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne,

Sorry to say I made an error on my last post.  She was born c 1754 not 1854!!

I would not give up so easily if I were you.  Have you tried going through the military route?  You may pick up something from John's records or if you think she was from a military family, you may find her father' record.  Did it give her father's name on the marriage entry?    If not, her father was probably serving in Ireland at the time of their marriage which should limit the timescale to search.  Quite difficult without a name for her father but Maxwell is not a common name, so a matter of trawling through.

Sorry I can be of more help to you in this instance.

Thanks again Liz. Yes I have searched for 34 years, pouring over micrfiche from the Latter Day Saints  with all the military records. So I am quite pleased to get just what you gave me. I must get back to them.
No I'll never give up. I find these really hard ones, come to the surface when you least expect it. Thank you again for searching for me. It is so appreciated.
