Where born?

Anyone know where Carlton something or other is?
The 1851 census for Gowdall has my ggg grandfather Edward Rhodes, widower, age 72, agricultural labourer, born at Carlton ---- can't make the rest of it out.
His two sons,George and Benjamin and daughter Susan are with him.
The ref is HO 107  2350 and 439 in the top right corner.
  Rapsy.

I think it says Carlton nr Ponten?

But I can't find that!! ;D

I wonder if it is Carleton which is just below Pontefract.  The Pontefract having been abbreviated on the census.

In 1861 the same Edward Rhodes (now aged "80" and still in Gowdall) gives his birthplace as Norton: RG9/3530/27/3.

I think it says "Carlton nr Ponte (then 2 little marks and a small t above)

So I think it should read " Carlton nr Pontefract

which would "fit" with this baptism

Hello…. could you scan the whole page?……on the top it usually says the district and parish etc….I will look, and you have too,no doubt, at the surrounding information…
Thanks…. cos I dont have access to records at the moment..had to put my ancestry on hold for now… tho ,I can look tomorrow at the family history center…I am up for helping anyway I can….
