Photos Edmund Higgins lock-keeper

I have some photographs of Edmund Higgins born c1845 in Pirbright Surrey, his wife Caroline born Exeter, Devon and daughters Alice and Jennie. They were taken about 1900 when Edmund was lock-keeper of Sheering Lock Sawbridgeworth Herts and include photos of the lock being built.  Happy to scan and send copies to any of his family.

Hi , It seems alot of people have the same problem as me. Albums full of photographs of unknown people.We know they're of some relation ( why else would we have the photo's ? ) but can't figure out how their related or who they are.I set up a website specifically for photographs like these. Where they can be posted up onto the web along with all known details, in the hope that someone will visit the website and recognise a face!

That sounds like a good idea - as you say there must be loads of unclaimed/unknown photos around.
In this case I do know who they are and that they aren't related - my mother in law's family came from the Sawbridgeworth area and Edmund and family were friends. It would be so nice to reunite them with descendants.

A similar idea then, photographs without a home or at least not in their right home. It's sad to think that there could be people out their wanting photographs of their ancestors and all the time these photo's are in some one else's cupboard getting dusty. Simply because people have no way of reuniting the photo's with the correct owners.I've seen American websites of a similar kind but unfortunately could find no UK version so i set my own up. I've found the photos - bit of a panic as it is 6 years since my original post and they weren't where I last recalled seeing them- and will get them scanned at some point soon. It is really nice that you happened upon my post. How are you related to the Higgins?
