I too am looking for Houstons from Co. Down, Ireland. James Houston farmer and his wife Susanna Mour/Muir married in Belfast abt. 1799 and soon after emigrated to Glasgow, moved to Linwood, Renfrewshire and finally emigrating to Plympton Twp., Ontario in 1833. Their daughter Susannah b. 1805, Co. Down married William Hastie in Renfrewshire, Scotland and he also was born in Ireland. They too emigrated to Ontario in 1840 with their family and a few Houston family members.
Anything sound familiar?

At some point in this chat someone mentioned visiting the Linen Hall Library in Belfast for more family information. I would be looking for information prior to 1800 which might be difficult??? Many thanks.

Teya, by now you may have found the information you are looking for but Houston (with various spellings) is a very common name here in Ulster. Additionally, few church records c1800 survive- of those that do not all are online.
Part of Belfast is in County Down but there were lots of churches in Belfast. Do you know what denomination your Houstons might have been in Ireland?
A look through PRONI's Guide to Church Records will show their holdings but probably a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack without more details to start with.
