Just remember what is written on the certificate is what the person was told to write down at the time no one verified the information.
I have a marriage cert with the brides surname spelt Paine and Payne written by the same person so which spelling is the correct one???
My great grandmother told porkies about her age and said she was 21 when she married. took me years to find her birth and had to work back from her death to do it only to find she was 17 at the time. so although certs are wonderful try and get a second source as well.
As you rightly say if only everyone checked their information. I'm as guilty as everyone else only today I found a wrong entry on my private tree but at least I went back in and made the correction.

Welcome to Rootschat.  There have been lots of topics on here about Ancestry public trees, and they all complain that there is a tree, or more, resembling their own tree but with wrong info.  There is not a lot you can do, if you try to write to the person with the "wrong" tree, either you'll not get a reply, or you'll get a reply telling you they are right and you are not.

The best thing is just to grin and bear it and know that you have the correct info, researched and with certificates etc. to prove it.

Ah, but do you wonder about the mysterious family living in a parallel universe, Carol?   :D

Aha - that explains where my ggrandparents were in 1901  :o - not hiding in Jericho after all!

Thanks for that, I'll just jump in me Tardis and sign up for FindMyPast Multidimensional without further ado  8)

(Sorry, gone a bit off-topic.  Ignore me.)

Thanks for the reply everyone. Sometimes you just wish you could get some people and give them a good shake and tell them to check their sources before posting/publishing anything!  :)
