WANTED 'Motor Cycling' magazine 1913
« on: Friday 09 March 12 17:09 GMT (UK) »
Or even just the chance of a copy of an article.

On 3rd September 1913, Bournemouth MCC held a speed trial at Canford Park, Wimborne and my father-in-law was winner of one of the races.

I believe there's a report of the event in the relevant issue of 'Motor Cycling' (known colloquially as 'The Green 'Un' by bikers of the day)

......or does anyone know if there's an archive of this mag anywhere?

Many thanks.

Hi Viv,

I've moved this from "or Sale / Wanted" here, so that people can reply to it.

This is of the event and has a picture, but may not mention your father-in-law unless he is the Mr G:

Much the same here:

The Park is now a school, so I'll ask the school archivist (whom I know) if he has any information (but I doubt he will).

Thanks, Richard

That article is where I found the info (today!) - obviously, being Morgan-orientated, it shows the cyclecar and sidecar racing. But wait long enough, eh? .....and eventually everything will be on the interweb.

Really good of you to ask about this for me.

I think your best bet would be to contact the VMCC (Vintage Motor Cycle Club). I am sure they would be very interested to hear from you.

Here's a link to their Library resources and there's a link to contact them.

Checked for you - the website isn't that easy to navigate but if you go to the Catalogue, select Newspapers from the dropdown, then enter Motor Cycling, it does display. You can order copies from the library - it's worked fine for me when I've wanted to order really obscure journals.

Thanks to you both - that's given me a nice couple of options.

Colin - I've emailed the library at the VMCC

Graham - you're right about the navigation at the BL site ! - but thanks to your hints I got there.  I searched for 'Motor Cycle 1913' and I'm not sure of the results that came up. I'll speak to them - think I'm better at that than website menus.....

thanks again.
