Hi Patrish,
That sounds like the John Taylor Walker I'm after.
Census material consistently says he was born in Charing, Kent c1805.
There is a baptism for a John Taylor Walker in Picadilly/Westminster Dec 1805. parents Richard Walker and Mary.
HOWEVER, 'my' John Taylor Walker married in Borden Kent, in 1832, to Mary Ann Sharpe and brought his children and a grandchild up in Borden.
There is a record of a Jane Taylor Walker baptised 31 Jan 1807 Borden Kent, parents simply given as Walker; and Frances Taylor Walker baptised 31st Aug 1806 at Borden, mother Mary Walker. I had thought these two girls might be siblings of John.
Mary Walker has 5 more children in Borden between about 1809-1818. No reference to a father.
In 1822 John Taylor, bach aged 60, and Mary Walker spinster aged 40 are married by licence at Borden.
My gut feeling is that Mary Walker is the mother of 'my' John Taylor Walker, and that she had a long term relationship with a man surnamed Taylor, probably the John Taylor who married a Mary Walker at Borden in 1822.
But I could be wrong and the parents could be Richard and Mary Walker of the London baptism.
So I guess I was hoping that there would be a baptism recorded for John Taylor Walker in Charing, which might resolve the issue of his parentage. I don't need any other information about him, as I have that already.
