I am currently looking into my husbands lineage. We have traced his grandfather, Joseph McConaghy (McConachie) back to his birth in Shotts West, Scotland in 1905. Both of his parents were from Northern Ireland; John McConaghy (McConachie) 1877 Articlave, and Minnie Ross 1878 (Castlerock?)
However I am having a hard time tracking down birth records, church records, or anything showing which John McConaghy (McConachie) or Minnie Ross these might be.
John and Minnie migrated to the USA on the ship Columbia in 1906 and resided in Pennsylvania, PA, USA. Joseph married Anna Harriet Tucker. One of their children, Richard McConaghy is my husbands father.
If anyone has any information concerning John or Minnie it would be greatly appreciated.

Scottish birth certificate for 1905 should list date and place of parents' marriage- so, what's is listed on his birth certificate? If they married in Scotland then the marriage certificate will contain more details than an Irish one (Irish one would list residence of bride and groom, fathers' names & occupations, etc.)
Pennsylvania death records will show names of both parents (as given by informant).
From there you could use those details to find the correct birth registration and other information rather than merely guessing.

The Scottish birth certificate for Joseph shows the marriage date of John and Minnie as 1904 July 12th, Shotts West. However, looking for the marriage record itself comes up with nothing. Additionally, his death record only shows parents names and nothing else.

Think you might have mis-read the date but it only took me a minute to find this marriage on Scotland's People-
ROSS MINNIE & MCCONACHIE JOHN  1901 (year)  655/3 19 (ref)  Shotts (Western District)

Once you view that you can post the details so we can start searching in Irish records.

Oh my goodness! The certified birth certificate I ordered literally says 1904, so I've been searching the wrong date! Blessed be ye! I'm looking for it now. :-)

For those of you tracing this family I wanted to add some information regarding Robert McConaghy born 1878.  He immigrated to Iowa in 1904 and in 1905 he and my great-aunt Annie Hopkins McClelland, born in 1885 in Bratwell, Londonderry married.  Two of their daughters survived to go on and have families.  I have no information regarding Robert's parents but am happy to share the information I do have on his family.

The registration district for Bratwell is Coleraine not Londonderry.

You can view it pretty much instantly on Scotland's People site for a few credits. I just put 'Minnie Ross' in name box then clicked on marriages.
